Default MS3 Cam

Alright, anybody here running an MS3 cam with 59cc heads on a stock bottom end LS1 engine? Do you have any problems with it cuz of the cylinder heads combustion chambers?

I just bought a set of 59cc LS6 heads from a guy who was running them with an MS3 and stock bottom end and he had no issues...

nice sig lol..^^^ from what I gather you can run extremely close PTV clearance, and you may not need to flycut to clear for it to run, but your running the risk of damage if you ever over rev or miss a shift or whatever... it's a safety thing. Could cause some serious damage if it decides to touch one day.. kind of like bald tires or 3 lug nuts...

I would not reccommend running the MS3 cam with heads that have been milled down to a 59cc chamber. If you did not have P/V clearance issues in the first place, tapping the rev limiter once could be all it takes to have a clearance problem. If you would like some more compression in the motor, going with the 2.5 5.3l Heads would be an easy way to do it since they come stock with a 62cc combustion chamber.

I have the 5.3L heads, and they were milled down to 59cc. If not the MS3 cam, then which one?

Without cutting any valve reliefs the biggest cam you could safely run would be a 228R.

I have a MS3 with PRC stage 1 LS6 heads (64cc chambers) and I wanted to run a cometic .040 headgasket to bring my compression up a tad and they said it wouldn't work so I have to run stock GM MLS headgaskets.

I,ll be running a ms-3 with ls-6 heads with .030 shaved and .040 cometic,s.I think i,ll be o.k because they will be on a LQ-4 6.0 with dish pistons. On my 5.3 HO the ptv clearance was to tight with flat top pistons. They didn,t hit ,but where under .080 ptv clearance.I think Min. ptv reccomended is .090. I think with 59cc heads you will have to flycut.

I run 59cc LS6 heads with a 228R and GM MLS gaskets. No clearance issues whatsoever and it makes plenty of power. VERY streetable.

What type of power are you making with that cam? If you dont mind me asking. Is it on a 112 LSA or 114LSA?

114 LSA. It's going on the dyno this saturday, so I'll know for sure then. Most cars with this setup put down ~425whp. It's very streetable and pulls really hard all through the powerband. Here's a couple vids...

Dat be me!!

Car made good power, too.
Stock thickness gaskets were used, but I admit I was tempting the purchase of a 408.

My next H/C combo will have plenty of PTV clearance... ETP 215's, and a custom cam.
I'll be able to overrev and bang off the rev limiter all ******' day.

Your car sounds GREAT, Andy!
Where are you dynoing it?

Thanks! We're heading up to West Bend dyno on saturday. Greg is bringing up his Magnacharged LS1 GTO as well. We should be on the dyno around 11-12 if you wanna swing by.

There would not be enough clearance for that setup to work, I would stick with a stock MLS gasket.
