Default A Question for engine builders ... Oil Pressure

What is the minimum oil pressure for a supercharger 402? When I first built my engine, the oil pressure was really good. I had 40-80psi from idle to 6500rpm, now I get 30-50psi. I have heard the rule of 7-10psi per 1000rpm. So with that math I am OK, but I want some expert opinions.

There is also a difference in oil weight. First I used 10w40 and now have 20w50. My change to heavier oil was to ensure protection at the cost of a few ponies. I used to drive this car on the street and didn't want the oil getting too thin. But now I might trailer the car to the track.

I would like to get thru the summer with this engine. I intend on pulling the motor this winter for a teardown inspection and freshening.

If you have lost 30 pounds of oil pressure at 6500 something is wrong inside the engine.

What would you say is a minimum oil pressure for that RPM?

I would feel real good about 80, but 60 would not scare me a ton. The thing that sends a big red flag up on your deal is you lost 30 psi from when the engine was fresh, that does not happen unless the engine has a problem.

When did you switch to 20w50? Did you run file fit rings? What was your first and second gap? How much boost are you running?

I switched to the heavier old this spring. I am using Total Seal Max Seal ring and set there gap to their recommendation. I am seeing about 16-17psi of boost. But right now, the blower is not connected.
