Default Ticking Noise

well have noticed that when i first start the car there's a decently loud ticking noise. Sounds like a tappet, then after about 5 minutes it seems to quiet down. Have caddy lifters running what i think around .65 preload if remember right. Rest of mods in sig, just curious if this is a problem or anyone else that has had this issue.

Any input is appreciated.

It sounds like a pushrod or lifter related issue. Were you beating on the car previously to the new sounds?

yea i notied the sound a little when i first started it after i pulled it out of storage. this was acouple of weeks ago. Drove it a second time and took it to red line a few times. Then today i notied it was louder then normal. Before it was just like hmm sounds like the lifters are pumped up which i just contributed to it sitting for a while. Then today it was really noticeable and increased with rpms. i just took it down the street and took it back because of the noise, and while trying to figure out which side it was coming from it started to quiet down.

how long was it sitting in storage and how long did you let it idle before you took it out the first time?

sat in storage for about 5 months, and let it idle for about 10 min before i took it out for the first time. Let it idle till it went to closed loop.

Well if it started making the noise right after you initially started it up after a 5 month period of hibernation, it sounds like a lifter is not pumping up correctly. I do not think you bent a pushrod while it was in storage. It might just need fresh oil. Pull the valve covers as well and make sure that your rockers are nice and snug.

yea i defintally dont think its a push rod just because it gets quieter as the car warms up. I was thinking that the lifters weren't getting pumped up, but its down it more then once after i pulled it out of storage. I'm kinda thinking that i may not have enough preload in them and thats causeing them to take a long time to pump up

If you have headers w/ the AIR delete blocker plates and the plate loses toque (which causes an exhaust leak), it ill tick nice and loud. ith the car running you should hear the tick loudest from outside next to the front tires. It on't sound as loud in the engine bay. Also, it ill be loudest hen the engine is cold. Thermal expansion will quiet it down.

Too easy to check and tighten. The bolts are 10mm.

no i have headers with air deleted, i really think its coming from the engine, think i'll just pull off the valve covers and see if i can figure out which side it is. Really thinking that the lifters arn't pumping up.
