Default Oil Pump & Timing Chain

Doing a cam install. Cam is on a 115 LSA (.224/.228)

Was told I need to upgrade my oil pump and timing chain on a 99 WS6. Is it necessary to upgrade to the LS6 oil pump and the LS2 timing chain? Or do I need to purchase the heavy duty ****. LMK

here's what i got my eyes set on

LS6 oil pump and LS2 chain is what I have in my car and all that you need to run safely.

LS6 pump & LS2 chain is what I will be running. I went with a TSP ported pump though.

I don't believe it's NESSESSARY, it's more like SINCE YOU'RE ALREADY IN THERE kinda things. Depending on how many miles you're already clocked at, you'd be replacing them soon anyway.

I would probably advise for you to look in the FOR SALE section first, you might save a few bucks. You'd also want to look at a ported oil pump like the one from TSP. It's a bit more than the WS6store's, but it's ported for a better flow.

FYI, I did my cam install with 110K on the clock and my timing chain had no slack in it at all so I left it alone. The oil pump was also running fine and had given me no signs of going out any time soon so I left it alone too. I now have almost 130K on the clock, with plenty of street races and several passes at the strip. Everything is still running 100%.

Not that I recommend keeping the stock parts, I was just hard up for money at the time and wanted to finish the install.

True. For what is cost, it is by far worth it to upgrade the oil pump and Timing Chain while you already have the front of your engine disassembled.

What you posted in your original post is more than sufficient for what you're doing.

When they installed my cam,I had them put in a Melling 295 and LS2 timing chain.I figured while they are in there anyway, better play it safe. It's not that much money.I would if it was my car IMO.
