Question about 5.3 heads with 58cc chambers and stock ls1 short block
I have a set of 58 cc chamber 5.3 heads and was wondering about valve to piston clearance and how big of a cam can be ran with the 58cc chambered heads and stock non flycut pistons?

Not sure, but a lot depends on valve size, gasket thickness and cam duration. You are going to be putting bigger valves in these heads...yes? I have 5.3 Tea heads with 2.02 intakes and milled .010 with Cometic .040 gaskets. I had to flycut with my 589/.597 230/236 cam. Whatever max cam size anyone tells you in this thread, don't take their word that it will clear without measuring.

TEA told me that I needed to go no larger duration than 230 with that size chamber in my 5.3 heads I am running cometic .040 head gaskets .....call Brian at TEA and ask him..that was without fly cutting the pistons

Yup...When Brent worked for Tea he PM'd me the following after I purchased my 5.3 heads from him:
"I would use something with 230-234 intake duration and 236 to 240 exhaust durration. Fly cutting is needed in order to go after all the power your engine is capable of making"
