Unfortunetly AFR uses a 0.600 lift spring on there heads, even the 225cc version.
When I went to install my cam, lift was just around 0.600, Tony not only suggested upgrading the spring, he almost demanded it. :-) So in went a set of AFR #8019 dual springs.
IMO, AFR should include this dual spring as standard on the heads, especially the 225cc version.

redchevytruck is a friend of mine. We've had his valve covers off before to reveal his valvesprings on the AFR's. They are dual springs. Does that mean that his have the 8019 spring upgrade? Or were the standard springs (non 8019) dual as well?

He had an engine builder build his engine for him. He got a bill. Didn't really know what all he got. Now he discovering the cam is no where feeding the 408. It's a baby cam that I wouldn't even be happy with in my 346. So when looking for a bigger cam, he is making sure his valvetrain will support a higher lift cam.

So this thread is a little useful to others, I will copy and paste this info from Tony.....
"the only way to know if you have our standard 8017 spring or our upgrade 8019 spring is to actually physically have the spring off the head. If the inner coil is the same length or just a little shorter than the outer coil you know its our standard spring. If the inner coil is about .200 taller than the outer spring you know its our upgrade version and the one you really need for that set-up."
Hope this helps!

Sometimes springs that come with assembled heads are just there to hold the valves in the head. You should replace them with aftermarket performance springs if you're really pushing it.

Honestly, both the 8017 and 8019 spring will work with that cam. I have tested both springs on our computerized spring tester. The 8017 will go close to .690 lift at ~.060" from bind... The 8019 just gives a little more pressure to help with that heavy intake valve. All 225's built in the last couple of years come standard with 8019's.
