Default What are the best heads for a stock cubed LS1????

Like the title says, I'm looking for the best heads available for a stock bottom end LS1 for my 99 Camaro SS.

Best as in most HP and torque. Not too concerned about getting the cheapest heads, just looking to make at least 450rwhp (with all of the standard bolt-ons, full exhaust, etc.).

Thanks.

What you are shooting for can be done with a smallish cam(around here) and a set of 243's with a valve job.

The right VJ, that is.

i'd be very interested to see how stock 243s perform with a valve job!

At what RPM? 450 at 6,000 is a lot different than 450 at 7,000.

I've heard trickflows are very nice.

We've played with some Dart Pro 1's, and they're awesome as well.

AFR 205's. ETP's would be a seccond choice. 243's not likely to see 450, unless you get a huge cam and have low TQ #'s.

To me "best" is in your own opinion. The "best" hp heads may not neccesarily be the best under the curve torque or hp heads. Also your heads should be paired with your cam, heads make power but they make a lot more with the right cam. Again "best" is a somewhat open adjective. That being said my buddy runs the afr 205s and they are strong with his set-up

Anyone heard anything about the Edelbrock heads? I am really trying to go with old school companies whenever possible. If for no other reason than to guarantee my parts never even sniff an Asian country. I have used their stuff on some old muscle cars I have had and could not have been happier. I am tempted just to go and get them regardless but would love to hear from someone who has either taken the plunge or knows someone who has...even read an article.

edelbrock is making a porter's series head you could send it to someone like curtis boggs or darin morgin at profiler they can match the head with the rpm range and camshaft but for a off the shelf head don't sell chevy performance short

Cheapest route? I have installed this set up on 3 cars!

-PRC stage 2.5 5.3 heads
-Torquer 2 cam or the MS3 cam
- Fast 90/90
- full basic boltons

-The auto car put down 441whp and 398trq on a mustang dyno with a yank SS 3600 stall unlocked! So more around 455whp or more
-The m6 cars put down around 460whp and 402trq

See those are good size cams! Well with trick flows the more $$$ route one of my fiends that had a set of Ported ls1 heads i think prc and a little Tr230 cam put down 430whp with basic boltons. Well the only thing he swapped out was his heads to some trick flows and he gained 33whp over the cheep ported ls1 241 heads. with a bigger cam you can get 500whp easy with the trick flows on stock block

best bang for the buck i would say either patriot performance or TSP PRC heads for sure!!!

but if i could shell out the extra cash, i would opt for some trickflows!! these H/C packages with trickflows are making some insane power!!

Also look into some TEA stg 2 LS6 heads, they are a 225cc runner and flow about 5 cfm less than the Trick Flow 215's!! (They are CNC'ing a set for me right now)

A set of Ls6 heads done by one of the top head porters is hard to beat. It all depends on what your goals are, and how much you want to spend.

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, when I said "best", I basically mean which heads will get me down the 1/4 mile the fastest. So, big HP with a nice HP and torque curve.

It seems that Trick Flow seem to be heads that will do this.

I'm aiming for the same numbers.. I'm pretty much a when it comes to understanding any h/c package. Let me start reading some stickies

You can't edit his post to say "cheapest heads" when that isn't what he said and then bring up ported stockers. You cut out the beginning of the sentence:

It looks like trickflows would be great for what you want. Give me a call or shoot me a pm and we can work out a great price for you, and give you all the additional info you need.
