Default doing my cam swap..

ok guys help me out here, my car only has 33k miles so I'm not going to worry about swapping to a new oil pump, not unless going to an ls6 would really help, if it would I might as well right? LOL.

I already have the 3 arm puller, and pushrod length checker

Just wanting to make sure I have all the parts, here I go:

dowels to hold lifters
Coolant
Anti seize
Loctite
RTV
Oil
Oil Filter
Gas (LOL, hey its eventually gotta get cranked up right?)
Pushrods - 7.425 inch
CAmshaft (custom grind ) - keeping secret for now
LS6 oil pump

Cam installation gasket kit ---
-comes with 2 x water pump gaskets, timing cover gasket
timing cover seal, valve cover gaskets, new crank bolt (harmonic balancer)

new timing chain

air injection gaskets (yes I need them... the ones currently on my car are worn out)
front gasket
front gasket seal

if I left anything out please, please toss it up here.

Be sure you have dowels to hold the lifters up in place once you pullout the cam.

And thread sealer for the rocker arms helps keep oil out the valves.

You'll fnd that if you take your time and use reasonable care the water pump and timing cover gaskets will be OK. Examine them closely, but I think you will see they are still pliable. They're better quality than the GenI. This doesn't apply to head gaskets of course. Always change the crank seal on the timing cover and take note of the direction the lip faces when you install the seal. The angle of the lip on the seal should be installed such that it prevents out from escaping from the pan not allow it to escape. I don't change the rocker cover "O" rings unless they pop out on their own during the cam swap. They can swell up and pop out of the machined groove when you remove them from the heads, but sometimes you get lucky and they stay put. You should have all of these items in your tool box whether you use them or not just in case they are needed. I like to clean everything nearly as well as is done in a hospital and you'll be well served to do the same. No, the front cover seal and gasket are NOT the same thing. It would help if you can figure out the difference. You don't need the thread sealer on the intake rocker bolt threads UNLESS you have CNCed heads which I assume you do not.

I always say, if you have it that far down.. put the LS6 pump in.. cheap insurance and peace of mind.

As for your question about the front cover seal and front cover gasket. They are not the same. The Gasket is the gasket for the front cover. The seal is the small black seal that fits around the crank pulley. Kinda like a mini rear main seal.

Yes, use this part # for the chain.. 12586482

Yep, the oil pump will work with no issues. I dont really think there is a difference between the two pumps.

Ok the LS6, LS1, and LS2 pumps are all the same pump. Go with an aftermarket melling or something if you are going to swap the pump. they will send you two o-rings the black one goes with the LS1 pick up tube, the green is for the truck pick up.

The Crane tool is nice for removing the springs, and you will want one of those powerful pen magnets to help you remove the valve retainer locks. You will also need an air fitting to preassurize the cylinder to hold the valves up or just use the TDC method. Also get new Viton valve seals for the stems.
