I purchased my LS7 lifters from Texas Speed and they do not come with lifter trays. Im sure if you called up a shop they could get you a set of trays though.

Are the lifter trays a must? I'm doing a H/C swap this weekend and I'm replacing my stock LS1 lifters with LS7 lifters.

is there a proven advantage to LS7 lifters? I haven't looked into them yet but noticing it looks to be a popular upgrade. Also anyone have a link to good pricing?

LS1 and LS7 all use the same lifter. In fact all LS based car and truck engines except the new LS9 use the same lifter and some V6's as well.

They are not a must but, you will see how loose your lifter are in the old trays compaired to new ones. I changed mine because I didn't want to take a chance on having a lifter turn.

Trays are cheap insurance. Not a big deal if you dont but for so cheap, its extra peace of mind for a few bucks.

are these trays easy to swap out? i'll get a set as you say its not worth the risk to put worn parts in a new shortmotor. i've asked the engine builder to send me the ls7 lifters but if i can get a full kit incl the trays i will do
cheers

Anyone who sells the lifters should have the trays available too, $16-$20 on average.

The trays are the only thing keeping the rollers pointed straight on the lobes of the cam. On any car with over 50K miles its added insurance. In addition GM redesigned them recently to be less prone to failure, (not that they fail that often). For what they cost I would pick up a new set...IMHO

The OEM LS1 lifter is now the LS7 which is an upgrade over the original LS1. The lifter trays have also been improved and you are crazy to not change them for the small coin while you are in there. Next I would look at the Caddy racing lifters then Morels but they are way overkill for most.... LS7 lifters here.
