About to order Rollmaster timing chain, couple of questions
First off, is it worth it to with the chain that has the optional torrington bearing? Also, how much of a pain is it to install the one with the bearing? I've heard some horror stories! lol Right now I don't have a pulley, but will be installing an ASP in the future. Will the pulley install be harder if I have the chain with the bearing?
Just trying to figure out what I need and what I don't need.
TIA!

Re: About to order Rollmaster timing chain, couple of questions
Well, I got the hardend Rollmaster w/the bearing with my H/C package and it is a real quality piece and I got a awsome deal on it to boot. The hadest part of the timing set swap for me was removing the crank sprocket and reinstalling the oil pump. The bearing in no way hampered the reinstallation. I also have the stock pully so I can`t help you there, but for the little extra $ I`d go with the bearing/hardend Rollmaster.

I agree with 02SilverZ. I have the same set and it fit perfect. The hardened set with the Torrington bearing is only a few bucks more. Check out SDPC, they should have them in stock. Because the oil pump is shimmed out 3mm to clear the dbl chain, you will have to modify the ASP pulley just a little so it won't hit the front of the oil pump.

I didnt have to modify my asp pulley to work with my rollmaster with bearing chain. There are quite a few cars that I know of that didnt have to modify the pulley either.

Oh, I planned on going with the Rollmaster w/torrington bearing all along, but I have just heard of a few people having trouble with aftermarket pullies. What I was really wanting to know is what did they have to do to remedy the problem? Was it just clearancing the pulley a lil bit?
Thanks for all your replies guys!

I just had my Thunder Cam installed today and the installation of the rollmaster double roller was tight, however no modification to the ASP pulley was required. This was installed on a 2001 Z28.

Got mine from SDPC2000.....install was EASY EASY EASY!!! and well worth it.....the bearing is fixed to the cam sprocket (not a separate part).....
done this install on two cars...
1) my car with an ASP pulley
2) friends car with stock pulley
both were simple...

yes the shims are in the kit and you will see how they go when you have it apart. there is one shim w/ 2 holes in it and one w/ 3 holes. the one w/ 3 you want to add a bead of RTV sealant to it when you install it

You can get the shim on the output port side of the oil pump on UPSIDE DOWN so make note of the position of the hole in the shim when you install it. Make SURE it lines up with the oil pump output port. If you take the oil pump cover off and remove the DRIVING and DRIVEN oil pump gears it makes getting the oil pump pickup tube into the pump during reinstallation of the oil pump a whole lot easier. Some people have real troulbe with this step. Just be SURE to note the position of the "DOT" on the DRIVEN gear when you reassemble the oil pump. The "DOT" faces OUT.
