How bad is it to bounce off the rev limiter in an A4?
I have been having some probs with my trans recently, so I hit the rev limiter a few times at WOT. What damage can result from this (anything internal)? How will I know if I damaged something?

my did it a couple time before my trannismission went out. all three times my tranny went out...my rev limiter would start hitting then 100-200 miles later the tranny was toasted.

Big, your tranny was already going out. That's why it was hitting the rev limiter on the shifts (it was slipping.)
Hitting the rev limiter doesn't hurt the engine. The stock rev limiter is very conservatively set. You can even set the rev limiter a few hundred rpms higher and not have to worry about anything unless it's an old engine with weak valvesprings.
