Default Are S3 heads a must with bigger cubes???

I am looking to upgrade to a 383 or 396. Do I absoultely have to get Stage 3 heads for the car? Is there that much of a difference between the S2 and S3's?? What is the biggest difference? Just the valve size?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not necessary, but you would be giving up some potential power. The only difference is that the chambers on the heads are opened up to reduce valve shrouding. This means more flow.

I'd at least go with 2.055 intake valves for a larger cube engine. 2.08s if your seats can handle them.

From what I have read, if you have a big bore motor you need the S3 heads to open the CC to match the cylinder correct?

Well what if you do a stroker? This bigger ci method uses a longer stroke and deletes the need to bore the cylinder wider. If this is true, and you have stock bore size, and longer stroke you will not be getting the full benefit of S3 heads. On a stroker, the S2 heads will work fine.

Am I making any sense??

Big valve heads need a miminum of a four inch bore. If you run all stroke you will get valve shrouding from the small bore.

Thats what I mean. If I go all stroke, I can save money by getting Stage 2 heads instead of the Stage 3's.
