Just wondering if anyone went the budget non ported route.
PS i know ported heads will make more HP just wanted to see what people have done with stock 243 heads

It will raise your compression ratio. Should add 20hp. See here for result of Z06 + 224 cam: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2090794

i did a base dyno before tuning and made almost 440rwhp with a fast 90 , 243s , 224 228 cam on a 114 . got the link in the sig of the base run . going to wait till after my spec aluminum flywheel and injectors to se what that can do .
it is a real good buget build for a ls1 . plus it is not too radical for the engine .

i did that with my girlfriends 00 ws6. her car is full wieght and a auto car with 342 gears 2500 stall, bolt ons and she ran a 12.1 @115 with 17 DR's. i put the comp 224/230 581/592 lift on a 114 lsa +2 and stock 243 heads(non ported)
i just picked up a set of partriot stage 2 ls6 style heads for it(59 cc). i can't wait to see what her car runs with those heads

i ported my heads and intake with some carbide bits and a die grinder . also bought the standard abbrasives but really did not have to use it that much as i had most the stuff .
a dremel can polish up the exhaust pretty well . a bit of work but does the job .
stock ls1 heads 66.67cc which put you at 10.1 compression
ls6 heads 64.43cc which will give you 10.5 compression
when you swap the heads get a smaller head gasket for a better quench and lower compression . also , when i clayed my heads there was plenty of room to mill some more .

Sodium-filled valve ones will fetch more, LS2 take offs will fetch less. I'd say between 300-500 would be fair price for lower mileage non-sodium. Sodium filled, no idea. Check the GTO boards, there are plenty of guys probably getting rid of them for aftermarket castings (the LS2s will not be sodium filled valve equipped). Good call on ECS, I had my first cam tuned there. Great bunch of guys, very knowledgeable.
