Default Is a must when doing a head/cam swap to change oil pump/timing chain

I'm doing a head and cam swap on my 99 Corvette FRC. I'm purchasing PRC 5.3L Stage 2.5 ported heads and Texas Speed 220/220 Camshaft. Should I change my timing chain and oil pump. I only have 85,000km (53,000 miles) on my car. Both the pump and chain are in perfect working order. I don't want to replace something that's not broken unless I have to.

whats the recommended change for a timing chain, 75K? change it. cheap insurance. oil pressure is vital too. i got a melling 295 pump from the local auto parts place for 100 bucks and an ls2 chain can be had for under fourty.

I would, my buddy has a 2000 and never had a problem we took it to the dyno just for fun and as we backed it on the rollers the oil pump went out. I would get a ls6 pump at least. TSP has ported ls6 pumps for cheap. They also sell a LS2 timming chain for like $35.

Most do it so they dont have to come back in a 2nd time to do it. I have 155K mi on mine so doing new lifters, oil pump.chain when I swap H/C. I got the same heads you got with a 222/222 566 112 cam. If there still good then reuse them some times better to not risk it and just get new. better save than sorry.

You really should at least change your chain, you'll be surprised to see how much slack is in it compared to a new one. You can get a chain for $40 and you will have the pump off anyways and you can get a pump for 90-100, why not?

I didn't change mine at 120,000 miles when I swapped cams, but I like living on the edge. Now has 129,xxx miles and runs just fine with good oil pressure.

I didn't....I guess I like taking chances also. I wasn't too concerned....the way I look at it is if I never changed the cam, the chain and pump never would have been changed either. There are so many high-mileage LS1's out there that have never had problems. It was a risk that I have no problem taking. If I ever upgrade cams, I will change them out.

i also never changed mine with 97k on a 2000 ls1, the chain, however, does have more slack than i would like, but we had to get the car done soon.
