i just cammed my 98 car with 126k on the clock and it likes it. no one will know how long the motor will last, but if you wanna do it once i say go ahead and get a forged shortblock.

There are some with over 200k on their LS1's !!

But the minute you start modding it with a big cam, the clock is ticking.
Lots of LS1's dont make 100k after having a bigger cam installed and then again there are those who dont break anything so it really is just a guess. My broke with 84k and a tr224 cam. Which is a small cam by todays oversized standards.

A forged bottom end is a good way to go if your going to be abusing the engine but if you just looking for a few extra ponies a small cam and maybe some lt's and you should be good to go for a while. Start living in the 6000-7000 rpm range and your changing your life expectancy of the engine.

ok so it sounds like I'm in good shape right now I'm currently putting on the car less than 2000 miles ayear just drive it to me GTG.
is it cheaper to just buy a shortblock or have ur blocked forged?..........my plans are too buy a 1st gen later on and throw my existing motor into that and get a short block 427 for mine......dreams dreams for now......

for the money you can buy a rotating assembly that is forged in whatever size engine you are looking at getting .
