Default oil pump install on 98, hell!!!!

well im doing my h/c combo as we speak, and i have everything done except for the oil pump bolted to the pic up tube, well i see alot of write ups with pics and the pick up tube bolt is on the left, were there is space to take off the bolt, but on my 98 it was on the right, i took it off with ease with some needle nose pliers, but its tight inthere no room, as the oil pan is right there, i know if it had been on the left i can get it but its on the right

did you take all the oil pan bolts out, including the to horizontal ones in the rear? Remove all of those and pull down on the pan. IT may be pretty snug, but it should fall enough that the pickup tube bolt will go in. I found using soldering wire to hold the bolt worked really well. With the wire and my 10mm gear wrench and about 10 minutes of patience you should be able to get it to go in. Just don't get frusterated because you'll keep dropping it.

I have banana hands and I got it in and out several times. Just take your time and make sure that the oil pan is lowered. You may have to move the transmission lines out of the way.

Did the same thing, but used solid copper wire. And bought the gear wrench just for that one bolt, it was worth it

ya any thin, but stiff wire should work pretty good. Something that will hold the bolt up while you can wrench on it, and then once its started, tug on the wire and undo itself.

While you are in there you may as well check your cam retaining plate and make sure the gasket is good. Just a thought, there are quite a few people that regret not doing it and have low oil pressure when its all back together

How did you get it without lowering the pan? I've never seen it done like that. The bolt is technically on the left. If it were on the right, it would be easy. I've never seen one on the right.
