4.125" crank w/ stock 3.90 bore - bad idea?
Does any one have this 396CI set up? How is it?
Pro Stock John thought it is a bad combination since the stroke is very long compared with the bore. I think he said it would perform like a truck engine....
Any thoughts?
Thanks....

Re: 4.125
Most people on here think so but thats what I have.
I make 484rwhp and 451rwtq. I have 4.10 gears in my Z06 tranny so low end torque is really not a problem for me. I can smoke my tires all the way to 90mph.
I only took it to the track once and that was with stock 3.42 gears. It went 7.2 at 101.6mph with a 1.85 60' time in 90 degree Texas weather.
It should be an easy 10 second car if I can get a sub 1.7 60 foot time.
BTW, I am spinning it all the way to 7000rpm and no problems.

Re: 4.125
When u have a stroke that long and a bore that small the cylinder walls tend to shroud the valves. In other words its hard for an over square engine to breath. A better combo for a 396 is a 4.125 bore and a 3.71 stroke via offset ground stock crank. Allen Futral just put one together that made 517 to the wheels I beleive.
