Vavle Springs too big=damage.
At what point are vavle springs too big for a cam? Like if the cam is .62x lift and you get the .650 springs. Will that prolong the life of the springs or will it put unnessary wear on the lifters? I searched this, but nothing came up.

Lift capability is only a rating based on installed height advertised (usually 1.800"). However, the seat value may not be enough to control any given cam and therefore they should be shimmed, which when shims are added, the lift capability of the valve spring is reduced.

Bottom line is lower stress is longer life. So a spring designed for more lift, which you don't use, should have a longer life (all else being equal). Surface treatments play a big role too. As I stated though, if you need to shim to get the required seat value then lift capability decreases and stresses increase. If you have a couple of springs you are looking at, run the numbers and see which looks better.

You should really ask your valvetrain guy for the proper springs, retainers, etc. to go with the cam lobes if you want the system to work and last. If you don't have a valvetrain guy, get one. The advice you get here (other than mine of course. ) may not be what you need. Who do you trust?

lol Thanks guys..but The recommended spring is a .650 while the lift is .610ish. Just wondering if was a benifit to that much of a spring. But you did give me something to ponder and research
