Default 99 Stock Heads vs 02 Stock heads?

Is there a difference between the two? I'm not on a budget for stage II heads or so yet. . .however I noticed someone was selling a set of 241 heads off a 2002 Z28. Is that better than my heads that is on the 99 TA or about the same?

Or just a better bet to save the $$ and go for a set of MTI Stage II heads and be done with?

supposedly, WOM, states that the 2k1's (241) heads are better, but i havent seen any proof as to why. i just like the 4 bolt valve covers and thats why i kept them.

good question, i was asking this the other day. Some say the 01's are better, but i dont think we should just ask the head porters.

from all I have seen and read including times vs mods, seems that the 241's have a slight advantage. No data to back it up though, and i wouldnt doubt that GM would say they all flow the same. But for the $$$ of swap kit and bolts etc...just save some $$$ and get a nice S1 or 2.

I hear they flow the same, they are the same head the only difference is the assembly plant, 99 heads are sand cast 02 heads are mold cast, same as the ls1 and ls6 block and they same the sand cast is a better process, I think alot of 01 and 02 cars pull higher power from the ls6 block in them not the heads

How the f--k does a block give u more power? Get a life. The two main reasons are that the head gaskets on 01s and 02s are thinner therefor they have a slight compression advantage and the fact that they have an LS6 INTAKE might have something to do with it. Hurry up and get ur go fast goodies bitch!

ouch that was rough
01-02 have the ls6 intake
the older ones have a slightly bigger cam
and yeh compression is up a little in the 01 02
so why do the newer ones make more power
could be better heads, could also be why the newer ones seem to squeeze alittle more out the same cam... donno for sure...
if you gonna pick the heads up and you gonna get then for little or nothing then go ahaead and do it and try your hand at a pocket port job... dont get crazy with it just smooth out the ports take out the bumps and imperfections and if you can get them flowed b4 and after...
who knows you might find out you are good at it...

keep us up on how it goes either way

The block gives more power because of additional air passages between cylinder bays. How much? Numbers between 3-15hp are usually claimed. If the compression increases from 10.1 to 10.2 that's ~0.2 hp.

Blocks mean **** unless you have a stroker..period...end of discussion.

Now for some reason and it might just be the LS6 intake the 241 headed cars are makeing MUCHO more power than the 843 headed cars....I know when I did my Stage 2 upgrade they didn't even want to take my 8XX head cores cause they just require more work...but GTP did and I did get some 241 Stage 2's from them and then had MTI go over them again and polish them up when the X1 went in. For some reason even though the 01-02 cars have smaller cams they produce more power and have more potential than the 97vettes thru the 99 Fbods just cause of the heads.

thanks for the info, but some of you guys please chill, you come off too harsh. Not everyone on this board knows what other do. If that was the case then this forum would be obsolete. Thanks

I Agree. You newbies from LS1.com need to relax and quit posting these smart-assed replies; I have heard that the new '241' castings are a little better, but like all the rest have never seen proof. Certainly not worth swapping heads stock for stock. If you are buying cores however it may be worth-while to find a newer casting head.

Amen To That! I think it is funny. Let one of these guys THINK he knows a little something, and all of the sudden he is a genius and everyone else is stupid... Get a life!
And I hope one of these "Brainiacs" asks me for a ride when his "smart" *** is broke down on the side of the road...

The only dumb question is one that is not asked... How can you learn if you do not ask questions?
Ans: I guess some guys are BORN knowing it ALL...

Yeah right...

241 castings have better flowing valves by shape and slightly different valve job. The difference in flow at some lifts is as high as 15cfm. I still recc: not swapping until you get ported heads, just thought you should know.
