I know I have to get it tuned, but when started the idle jumps to 3k rpms like there is a vacum leak but all hoses are hooked up. I have helped with cam installs before and with it not tuned the idle doesnt jump like that. Just thought I would come in here for some advice and see if I missed anything, thats all

oh wow it would have been nice if you had mentioned how high the idle was! we were all thinking around 900ish not 3000

btw we need more details, all we know so far is that it has a cam (which one, we have no fkking idea) any other mods?

in the PCM section there is a thread floating around about the idles hanging around 3k on standards, something along the lines of the RAF needing to be readjusted and throttle cracker needing to be tweeked. i dont remember all the details but search about the 3k rpm hang, taht problem is sadly common lol

we dont mean to be dicks, just need more info, all we know is what you provide....which wasnt anything.

Just thought I'd add this since it happened to me. After installing new heads and starting my car, my idle was 2000. For the heck of it, I went under the hood and fiddled with the little plastic cable holder that goes into the bracket for the throttle cable. I jiggled it around and tried to seat it better and voila, idle dropped under 900.

When I installed my cam, my idle never went high, I just had a lot of surging/ yoyoing. I'm sure you'll need a tune, but it sounds like you need to address something mechanical like the throttle cable or a vacuum leak.

Well, as for the cam its a TR230, with LS6 heads, Bo White TB, LS2 timing chain, LS6 oil pump.
Before the cam, oil pump, and timing chain install the car idled at 850 or 900. I had the motor apart put it back together w/ stock cam than decided to put the cam in after all was back together (I know *** backwards) but before I took it apart I started it and ran it for a awhile, good oil pressure, temp good, and idle perfect. The only difference was the cam, oil pump and timing chain install.

and I know this comes up alot, "did you line the dots up" and the answer to that is yes I did, lol

Did you check your throttle cable?

3000k is dam high, even is the IAC was fully in you couldn't get that high.

I see you said you have checked the vacuum lines. Is the intake manifold seated properly. Is there is something under the intake that's stopping the intake gaskets to mate? air could be getting in that way.

I didn't take the intake off when doing the cam swap. Before I did the swap I started the car and it was fine.
I did however, took the TB off. I'll check to see if the TB is seated properly, and cable when I get home. Its prolly something simple an could hit me in the face if it could, lol

you were right about the throttle cable. It idles great at 850
It was like a 1/2 inch away from the stopper. Its almost as if the cable got shorter or something. What causes that?
Thanks Predator
