Default buying heads need advice!!

found a really good price on a set of hand ported and polished 806 castings, i dont know much about the 806 casting anyone wanna help me out? done by a no name porter but the guy showed me the dyno sheet with the heads and a small 224 cam and bolt ons. peaked out at 385 hp at 6200 rpm, has a nice torque curve 310 tq at 2000 rpm, 380 tq at 4500 rpm and 320 tq at 6200 rpm, any questions i should ask or things to watch out for? do the numbers sound good? purelly street car that i just want to make faster but i dont want to lose low or mid range power. heres a couple pics of the port work any opinions will help thanks

Those are perimeter bolt heads. You'd have to change your valve covers out to use them. If I were you, I'd watch the classifieds section here for a pair of used heads. I'm going to be selling a pair of CNC ported 241s with Patriot Gold springs for $750 this winter sometime. People are selling heads ALL the time.

Don't 224 cams make similar numbers without head work? I mean if he is selling them for 20 bucks maybe.

they look decent but with a 224 cam and "ported heads" you should be in the 400+ hp range. personally, i would hold off on those and save up for some proven heads.

Thumbs up

There is a good post in this section on heads. I just read it.
They talk about the AFR's and Trick Flow's. Also Cartek's heads.
Take a look see.

By the time you buy the heads, then turn around and buy valve covers and brackets, you could have bought a new head that you know will perform. You would really want to have those heads flowed if you did decide to purchase them. Chances are, you factory heads are moving similar air. What kind of budget are you on? We offer a both PRC 5.3L heads and LS6 heads in the $1200 range that will make the same if not more power out of the box than most of the popular aftermarket casting 205 heads. They will also include a dual spring and titanium retainers as well. All while leaving a solid $1000 in your pocket and 0 hp on the table. Feel free to shoot me a PM with any questions you have or check out the website. www.texas-speed.com

Here is a good way to look at those heads buy a no name porter.

The tr224 cam will put down between 380 and 390 at the wheels.. CAM ONLY!

You have a 224 for an example with ported heads making the same or less power.... That should tell you all you need to know about those heads.

Keep looking! You'll make more power with a stock set of 241 heads.
