NOT GOOD PART 2 - IS TITANIUM REALLY THAT STRONG? Beware 56k
Well we all know the issues with the Patriot Performance S2 5.3L heads and the clearance issue with the rockers, here is a picture of my car:
http://www.ssgraphix.com/car/images/DCP_0214.jpg
http://www.ssgraphix.com/car/images/DCP_0215.jpg
The spring is not broken, neither is the pushrod.
Looks like something else broke on the car, and the head HAS to be pulled to find out how bad it really is, I wounder what is causing my compression loss? Maybe the valve isn't closing all the way because of the rocker??
Tomorrow i'm taking it in for the leakdown/vacuum test.
On a positive note, Terry said he would make good on this and I trust him that he will, it makes me happy that a vendor is very willing to make sure his product is right, especially in a shitty situation like this.

maybe your pushrods are too short? i would say they were too long if you werent getting compression...but i dont think long ones would cause rockers to hit.

This started out of no-where, i.e. no precipitating event, correct?
You need to pull the rockers off and pull the p-rods out and roll them on a flat table. They should roll smooth and straight. This will eliminate bent pushrods.

EDIT:
Look at the back spring, I have a broken valve spring:
After 3k miles my springs failed, I did 5 heat cycles, so now i have to do a total spring swap, thank god the head doesn't have to come off.

Im not so sure the head doesnt have to come off...
So far as I can tell, I dont know why a broken spring would cause a loss of compression without a bent valve or worse, a bit of piston damage from a dropped valve head.
Im sorry to say that I think the heads are coming off

The inner spring wont bring the valve all the way ****, causing a loss of compression, right?

1 broken spring wouldnt cause a loss of compression in every cylinder. i think you have other issues. how much were the heads milled? those retainers dont look too happy.

DriveATransAm: I only lost compression in one cylinder, #7, like shown. All of the other cyl's have compression. Yes, the retainers and springs are being changed.
offaxis: comp 978's
mike m: yes these are the springs with the clearance problems, hence the tore up Ti retainers. Yes, Terry is standing behind them 100%, it's just unfortunate that this has happened.
PSJ: It's smaller than the G5X-2...

hey if this hurt your motor is patriot going to cut you a check? or is he just going to fix the head? did they know the size of the cam you were using?
if these springs that everyone has with the clearance issues are going to start breaking, is patriot going to send them all new springs too. this seems like a big pain in the ***, i hope the poor guys who went out and bought yella terras dont wind up breaking springs after spending all that money.

To answer the question in the heading, titanium is as strong as steel but weights about 40% less, which is why it is good as a spring retainer. It does flex more than steel however; and it is also less temperature stable in dimension.

IF and I say "IF" the springs caused engine damage.. what does that have to do with them being on Patriot, TEA, or anybody elses heads? The head has nothing to do with the spring failure. When all the 918's took a ****, comp was the one to blame, not the head porters. I have 3,000 miles on my 978's with no problem. Has anyone else broken one of these springs?
