Default CAM for roll racing ms4,trex etc...

looking to start modding my vette i would like to start with tsp headers and i already have a blackwing intake after the headers id like to do a cam ive already decided on tsp comp kit for the springs etc... i just need help on the cam choice i dont do track or drag racing just highway fun and roll racing so i need something that will have good top end and be reliable on the street as it is my daily right now. I want a sick idle if possible i was thinking ms4 but like i said im new to gm not sure how the car will take it. any info would be great ps i heard predator z helped one of the ls1 buddies with a roll racing specific cam which is what i want. oh and i have an 01 6pd c5

Both those cams are more for drag racing, sort of the weekend warrior cams, could be daily driven though if you really wanted. I would pm Patrick G or predator z and see if they can help you choose a perfect cam for what you want. If your dead seat on both of those cams I would go with the T-rex.

i would go with the ms4 for what u want, cause your going to be driving it around town aswell as racing it on the highway. the t-rex has shitty low end and is very hard to tune, it is designed more for the drag strip as somws6bird mentioned before. whichever u decide to do, i would consider putting new heads in there aswell. if u dont have much money texas speed one of our sponsors sells fully assembled ls6 stage 1 heads for $600 or around there.

For roll racing with lots of power under the curve, think slightly smaller on the intake lobe than a Donkey Dick cam, a healthy split to the exhaust lobe (6-8 degrees), and a fairly narrow LSA (110-111). Kinda like a G5X3 but a little bigger with a slightly narrower LSA.

Pure nasty!

There are lots of clips in the media section of this site. Search through and you'll get a general idea of the various idle sounds.

Also might wanna do a search on which cams dyno/trap well. You would be able to make a more informed decision as to whether you should go sponsor cam or custom cam. Research, research, research ... It's the route I chose 8 years ago and helped me make my informed decision.

FYI: just because a cam performs well on the strip does not mean it can't pull a Bmw M6 on the highway with proper accompanying bolt-ons

I wouldn't recommend you get any of those over rated under performing cams that are being pushed on this site. With a properly spec'ed cam you can have a good daily driver that sounds bad ask and pulls from 0 to 6500rpm, not from 4000 to 6800rpm.

Pay a few extra dollars and get a custom cam that will work good in your car from someone that knows how to spec cams. And how do you already know what springs your going to use before you even know what cam you'll end up with. You deff need to talk with someone that can help you get a properly matched valve train package.

Hey *****! Are you going to have a car at the LSx Shootout? We'll have one of those "over rates under performing" heads/cam cars there. Just curious.

No Matt I will not be there, and don't really care to go. I'm going to assume your taking a race car to the Shootout, not a street car like the guy in this thread has. He wasn't asking for a cam that only pulls from 4000 rpm up. Yes Texas Speed sells smaller cams than the MS4 that perform better but no one sugested one of those. jon fro TSP has said on another site that the MS cam will not perform with the smaller better speced cams down low. And should we talk about the TSP head cam car that got out run by a stock car on the street roll racing. Jason was having a hard time believing that also for some reason. SVT-Vette said the car is his daily driver so a cam that works well all around would be better than something that starts pulling at 4000/4500rpm's.

And by the way, I didn't mention TSP I just said he didn't need a over rated under performing cam. Way to step up there Matt and claim it.

Ditto back at ya. I'm not sure if you remember but the thread title clearly states 2 camshafts by name. Also, many people daily-drive these cams in a wide variety of set-ups.
