Default New Guy with Ls2. Put me up on game

Hello all, I recently got a 06 GTO M6 Ls2 with 14,800 one the odo. Up in till I bought it pretty much the only motor I worked on and studied was the old school small block. I also have a 78 updated to a 87 el camino with a mild 350/350 combo hence the reason of only knowing sbc.

Fuel injection and ecu makes these LS motors a whole different animal that I'm not use to. I'm use to my 350 pulling hard then quickly running out of breath, but the higher the RPM's rise in my ls2 the harder she pulls! Madness!

Any way my GOAT is bone stock, should LT headers and CAI' probably a seved intake be my first power mods? As far as bang for the buck?

I know I can research this stuff but I want to be a little active in the community. Thank you in advance for any input.

Yep CAI, headers and exhaust will really wake the car up. Get a good tune after that.

A FAST 92 intake should should net a nice hp/tq increase, especially considering you have a LS2 intake which doesn't even compare to a LS6 intake.

In Cali for a street car you are going to be stuck with JBA shorties and stock cats. I think you will be fin with a cat back since most have CARB EO numbers. You will have to make sure your CAI has an EO number too.

Screw that noise My elco is eliegal as all hell with edle high rise intake, edle carb, cam, headers catless dual's dumping before the axle.

I might have to keep building the elco as my race car, it's not smog exempt but most cops respect muscle, (been pulled over allot)The thing is I hit a wall with it. I built the suspension (Hotchkis) blocked and primed the body, racing buckets and so on. Now she needs more power! And that's when the big bucks come in. Hence me just financing my GTO, much easier! Thank you for that info though. I didnt know about EO numbers.

Would someone chime in and share there experience with johnny law shaking them down on their mods.

Catback on a GTO is more for sound than anything...@5 to the wheels on a stockish car. Not sure how the smog thing works out there, but if you can do 1-7/8s LTs, catted mids, the Svede intake (the best hands down) and tune it would be the best bang for the buck. My '06 M6 GTO w/ a crap CAI, Kooks 1-7/8s, OR mids, and Magnaflow CB and tune put down 380rwhp.

So a 50ish rwhp gain on those mods. Nice! ON the cat back did you go 2.5 pipes? X Pipe? All that run you $2k? I read a few times that kooks 1 7/8 are the best for the GTO? They come at a hefty price compared to what else is out there.

Yeah the MF CB has an x-pipe and 2.5" pipes...the car now has the factory cat-back, including the resonator, with Kooks axle-backs. Better sound, IMO...loud and deep. The Kooks are nice headers, they also have the stepped ones now for the GTO...I would've gone for those if they were out when I bought mine.

As far as the intake manifold goes, depends on your future mods. If you plan on going with a different cam and even heads, then save up for a FAST.

If all you're doing is simple bolt-ons but still want to gain some power then don't bother witn an $800 FAST. Spend 1/3rd of that on a nice ported stocker and gain some 80% of the power that a FAST would.

Thank you that's useful info. I didn't think $1000 is worth 20 HP or so. I will go this route. I wanted to see if I can squeeze out as much as 100hp with bolt ons and a tune, once I reach that point I'll see how I feel about heads and cam. Thank you guys for all the help

You won't come close to gaining that with just bolt-ons. You might get like 50hp at the crank, but that's about it without tearing into the engine.
