Default Bondo or Other to Fill Fuel Rail Cover Letters?

I'm going to make a set of custom fuel rail covers using corvette ones and I've read a lot about people using bondo to fill then sand and smooth and add their own letters or design. Some have said that the bond will shrink and crack due to the heat.

Others have suggested using a type of plastic bumper repair compound to do the filling and smoothing.

Is there a tried and true method that has worked for any of you?

It didn't shrink and crack on mine and has over 15000 miles on it.
