Default LS7 heads or Aftermarket?

Looking for some opinions, I was looking at the cost of Trick Flow heads $1350 each, is it worth reworking GM LS7 heads?

GM LS7 heads ( already cnc from GM) are known for making great power, however they are also known for dropping a valve as well...

Honestly I wouldn't risk it. I'll go aftermarket. I hate to see guys spending over 4500 dollars for a shortblock then a valve destroy they nice pistons. Just my opinion. I'm sure someone else's have they opinion that may not agree with me.

badazz81z28,

It really all depends on your goal. An aftermarket setup for an LS7 typically runs upwards of $3000. A stock set of GM LS7s ported with a new exhaust valve setup and CHE bronze guides normally runs $1900 shipped here. We're running our sale now for $100 off any order until Monday of next week.

If you're not trying to make 1000hp. A stock set worked is plenty fine.

Default LS-7 Head Material

Hi, the GM "truck head" is NOT my favorite.

The reason is that the Exhaust Valve is "pushed" near the cylinder wall.
This shrouding effect can be helped by MUCH GREATER Exhaust Duration in the camshaft.

My choice would be the Hendrick head with a larger intake port/intake port suited for RPM and engine displacement.

My MAIN CONCERN is the AL material of the casting.
I have found SHORT LIFE of this LS-7 head in BAJA racing.
ONE item is that the rocker arm bolts that "pull" away from the head at the thread area.

The better choice would be a AL 356 casting material WHEN large amounts of money are spent on the cylinder heads.
The Valve Guides, as most report, are also a problem.

I have ported ls7 heads on right now and i think when i hit around 25k miles on them instead of having the valves redone im going to switch over to the ones tony mamo keep promoting. Check those out
