Default o2 sensor fiasco bank one sensor1,2

Ls2 c6 corvette. Had headers installed and intake(not manifold)... Now throwing codes for bank1 o2 sensor 1 and 2 range performance. Had heard something abouit the header messing up the readings... dont hear or see exhaust leak anywhere. Any suggestions or experience with this? Only bank 1, bank 2 is fine...

Did you change out the o2's once the headers burned in? From what I have seen the coating inside the headers will mess up the 02's

If thats true then why wouldnt the other side be messed up? I believe the headers are stainless as well.. Also unrelated the engine temp is no longer being shown on the dash... dont see how thats related but it isnt. Its not throwing a code for the temp sensor though...

Not that i doubt you man, but does that happen often... it never happend when i put ceramic headers on my camaro...

Default Cooks headers destroy o2 sensors?

ls2 c6 corvette. Headers been on about a month the o2 sensors on bank one are throwing codes for range performance... I have been told that sometimes the coating in the headers can destroy o2 sensors. Is there any truth to this and if so has it happened to anyone on here. If thats bull then what else could it be. the headers are cooks stainless. The o2 sensors on bank 2 are fine. ???????????????
Forgot to mention the headers have been on about a month...

Maybe the O2 wires are burning on the headers or exhaust pipe? Tune? Exhaust leak?

O2 sensors are probably throwing codes because they are running cooler in the LT's than stock, causing them to switch slower. I've never heard of coatings destroying sensors - I would clear the codes and if they come back, try new sensors.

Actually the gas temperatures would be hotter inside the header. I had the same problem with SLP's coated stainless headers, switched to some American Racing headers and have not had one problem, they are not coated.

What codes are you throwing? 133 and 153? That's not unusual at all with LT's and hi-flow cats. The sensors aren't heating up fast enough to keep up with the exhaust gas temp. Most people just turn the reporting off. Not a big deal.

I don't think kooks are even coated on the inside.

I was going to say the same thing. They don't come coated at all unless you order them coated.

Also I have heard of the coating taking out o2's before, What you can do is check the wiring to the o2 and make sure it didn't get burned from the new headers and if everything looks good try swapping o2's and see if the code follows. It could be a coincidence that a o2 went bad after a header install.

Actually, the 02s are further away from the engine, causing them to switch slower. It's a common problem.
One of the solutions is to use downstream 02 sensors from a 97-01 Vette, in the upstream bungs. Seems they have a higher wattage heater.
Also, the header tubes being as thin as they are, if the header isn't coated, tend to dissipate much of the heat through the wall of the tube, instead of through the exhaust stream, and subsequently past the 02, thereby causing the 02 to run cooler, in addition to it being farther away.
It is possible the wires are burned. It's also possible the coolant gauge wire is burnt too. That would be the most likely cause of the gauge not working.
