I have a camaro... The engine is in peices right now but it is all there and in good condition. New bearings rings and gaskets and it should be good to go.

there multiple threads on ls7 into a 4th gen. You CAN get the snout machined.

I'm inferring that one can run LS3 knock sensors on a LS3 motor in a 98 F-body? I already had the LS1 knock sensors tapped into the side of the LS3 block in June 2010 and have been driving it that way since then. I think I've seen photos of the LS3 sensors mounted and it appears they may give more clearance around the side of the block. Can I easily migrate to the LS3 sensor solution? If yes, which part numbers do I need from which vendors?

Thanks!

Foler, that is an open ended question. Does the BMW need the Fbody pan?? If so then you need

Maybe I have missed something along the way here but what do you do about the cam itself? Let's say I have a non AFM l92 with VVT. I don't really care about vvt (would keep it or delete it, whichever is cheaper) and I have an ls1 pcm. Are people just running the stock l92/ ls3 cam? VVT cams seem to be $$$.
Am currently debating the Lingenfelter box vs swapping reluctors (have no clue what that would cost).

Yeah, you missed a few things from the very first post:

-Cam Gear Bolts
-12596023 Early LS2 1x Timing cover w/cam sensor-Supposedly later style 4x will work
*12588670 LS2/LS3 Black Timing Chain Tensioner
*2001 and Newer LS1/LS6/LS2/LS3 Standard Volume Oil Pump (The L92 one is High Volume, I don't recommend it with your smaller LS1 oil pan)
-12576407 Early LS2 2x cam sprocket (your timing chain and crank sprocket are the same as the LS2 which is plenty stout enough)
-Cam Kit w/ Compatible valvesprings/retainers.
LS3's do not have the VVT cam phaser or Active Fuel Management yet. They do however use a single bolt cam and timing gear which is 4x. Therefore a cam change is required to make them work with your 1x/24x engine controls. Like late 06 and 07 LS2's they use the 58x reluctor wheel so you will have to pull the crank to change to the LS1 style 24x reluctor.

Okay. I think this part - "* Denotes items not needed in LS3 swap or if your L92/L76 Doesn't have Active Fuel Management AFM" threw me off. Guess that's what I get for reading at 1 am.

only way i could think of off the top of my head is if the knock sensors are on the sides and the CMP in front. if they post the vinof what it came out of you will be able to see as well.

Will the cam gears and chain and cover setup from an Lq9 work on the L92 or does it have to be from the LS2?

Observing the knock sensors and position of the cam sensor will only tell you if the block is a Gen IV block or not, it won't however tell you if it has AFM.

LQ4/9 is a Gen III motor. You need to use a timing set and cover from a Gen IV motor (LS2, LS3, etc) which has the cam sensor in the front. Also you will want to utilize the timing chain tensioner which, apart from early Gen III blocks, only Gen IV blocks are machined for.

Look under the intake at the valley plate (you dont have to remove the intake)

Smooth= No AFM
Not smooth = AFM
