Default A few ls2 questions???

I am looking into putting a used(hopefully good) into my 2000 a4 camaro.

What all do i need? is this a simple swap and re-tune? I would be re-usinf my ls6 heads i have on my ls1 and i would definitely be going with a bigger cam.

What will compression be with my ls6 heads? Actually my ls6 heads cam off of a 2007 ls2 corvette if this helps.

I now have a 224 227 cam in my ls1, what would be worth buying for the ls2?

Also what is the rpm limit of the ls2? is it as strong as the ls1 as far as bottom end goes.

And finally....Is this worth doing?

ls2 has flat top pistons like an ls1.

with rod bolts, around 7k is fine. stronger than ls1 stuff. pistons/rods are floating and not press fit like ls1. valvetrain is the limit of the rpm usually

that cam would work if you are on a budget but I would go bigger.

I'm pretty much doing the same thing this winter as was curious as to how many others have done it and what kind of ETs and numbers are they making with H/C? I'll be swapping in a stock shortblock as well.

These are good questions and I'm looking forward to the complete answer. I'm looking at throwing a L76/LS2 shortblock in and bolting my heads and intake on. What all do I and the OP have to do to make this work? What about the difference in 24X wheel vs the 58X or whatever it is? Is there any sort of easy plug and play conversion or do I physically have to press the 24x wheel on the L76 crank to work with my computer?

gm is supposed to be working on the 58-24x conversion harness...but you will need a cam/knock sensor extension harness and i would prob use the better knock sensors from the LS2 and up. use the LS2 valley plate too. then you need to see if that LS2 is 24 or 58, i have heard there are some of both. thats really it...the LS2 and the LS6 are almost the same, just the valves are diff

^^ Thanks for the info! I think the '05 LS2's are 24x. The rest are 58x I believe. If anybody knows anything else about the 58x to 24x conversion, I am interested to hear it! Also, my AFR heads, Kooks headers, accessories, engine mounts, etc should all bolt up just fine, right?

EDIT! Found some good info...

You will need:

24tooth wheel, The machine shop fits them for like 40 buck
A cam/knock sensor extension harness, its the same harness like 45 bucks
Ls2 valley cover/ and switch your oil pressure sending unit with your current
drill and tap for relocating knock sensors to side of block
front cover for relocated cam position sensor
also swap in your existing ls1 crank sensor to read the 24 tooth wheel

Also on most of the harness for the cam sensor you have to swith the wire pins on the pink and brown and white wire to make your car start( other wise it wont work and will take like 30 tries to start it. lol I know

if he already has an LS2 block...most of what you said he already has. and if its an 05 then he has the 24x and doesnt need to swap. he will have the front cover, valley and knock holes and the 24x sensor, also i believe that the crank sensors are the same on the GTO LS2s...

plus afaik the tensioners are the same

Sounds like a pretty basic swap, does anyone have a direct link to the harness from either SDPC or TSP I'd like to start gathering parts.

I'm confused a bit as well, if I already have the front timing cover off a LS2 and it has the cam sensor in it would I replace that one with my LS1 sensor, or does the harness reverse the wires so I can use the LS2 sensor?

use the harness and the LS2 front cover with the sensor that comes in it...the harness will take care of the rest

The harness will still need to be switched. Pink pin switched with brown and white. Most of the caspers harness need to be switched, its no big deal but from everyone I talked to they ended up switching the wires. Check to see that it starts just fine first try, if it is taking multiple times to start, or if the tach is not responding switch wires.
