Default How much timing for L92 Heads

-Just wondering how much timing the L92's like with L76 intakes? Im running 30 degrees with a 10.5 to 1 compression ratio. I have tried from 24 to 36 degrees with 30 degrees running the most consistent for bracket racing? 32 degrees to run some of my faster passes?

My 416ci L92, 11.8:1 compression, has 28.5 degrees NA and on a 150shot I run 18.5 degress with no issues. I tried running more NA timing but there wasn't any improvement.

Hey Doug, it's Ross. How have you been man? Since your motor is a stroker, I'd say that 30* is about all it should take. I tend to stay at about 28* in our motor in the Z28.

We are havin' tranny problems again. Apparently we made too much power and broke it. Tell Derrick we may need his assistance sometime if we can't get something figured out on our end, we might get Caffey to pull it and rebuild it but he is wayyy busy right now with just him and 1 other guy working for him.

Play it safe, go low and scan for knock often. Spark knock can kill an engine.

More timing doesnt always mean more power though. Just becasue you can get away with it doenst mean its the best for you. Have you done any testing to see if you need 34*?

Just on the strip. I am planning more soon. I can probably back down a couple. These heads with my dished pistons and a .035 squish seems to be ok. Obviously not everyone can or should do this but I also talked to a couple of pro tuners and they are having good luck with this setup running more timing than people think you can or are used to doing.

When I worked at SPO, the engineer responsible for the new LS3 kits and other performance parts tuning software said that on the GM crate engines they have, 27* is the sweet spot.

i run 27. this is with brand new plugs and reading them. number 7 cylinder was maxed out at 27 and the front cyliders could have used 1 or 2 more degrees. crappy LS intake designs......

so i played it safe and run 27.

I would but its fast enough, and I have beaten many a 230cam combo, all in the tune mate.

Im driving a 4000 pound heavyweight

The quickest cam only A6/G8 in the world has a 224/228. I would not run bigger then 230s in a 6L with L92 heads, lose all your bottm end.

Mines revvy enough as it is!

We see the most power at 27-28 on most L92's some will stay consistent to 29-30 with race gas but we still will run them at 28max. BTW they are not run at 28 across the board either. This applies to the 6012 boxes on carbed setups too.

Just put some sunoco race gas in. GT Plus 104 octane. Im at 12.6 afr and 32 deg timing peak 29 peak torque.. Im not getting any KR in the logs and none audible, However I won't be running any more.

I can't really compare to US cars as pump fuel in Australia isn't as good I believe.

I have been keeping it at 28-29 degrees, but the last couple days I have been trying 30 and 31*. 12:1 at 31* and no KR on our motor, but I'm not convinced it wants that much timing, but it sure seems to like it. I think I will put it back to 30* and leave it there. I'll see how it likes it at the track. Got the new tranny in it, and the new 4k stall converter. Shooting for 10.70's ultimately, but we'll see. Right now, my goal is just a simple 6.99@100 in the 1/8th. If I shoot low, I won't get disappointed.
