Default Building LQ9 which reluctor wheel to use 24x or 58x?

Building a LQ9 6.0 need to know if there is any advantage to using a 24x reluctor wheel or a 58x. I need to order my crank with one or the other. I am going to use a Fast EFI or the GM standalone with harness.

Thanks guys for the help.

If you are able to use either one, Then go with the 58x as its newer. I am sure Gm had some reason for going to that over the 24x, maybe someone else on here knows the exact reason. I would think though you cant go wrong with the newer reluctor and computer.

it came with the 24x, if you want to use the 58x you will need to get an ls2 timing cover. use the 24x.

GM Standalone only does 58X. And what sroach20 said. FAST may do both.

If you plan on using a 4l60e trans it is easer to use the 24x ecu is has the transmissions controller built in. The newer gm ecu's don't have the trans controller built in you have to wire that in separately. the fast system dose not really care weather it is 24 or 58x . My recommendation would be to stay with the 24x for ease and less expensive. There are a lot of stand alone systems that offer both 58 and 24x

hope this helps Chris

Also depends on whether you will run ETC or cable throttle (no 58X GM items do the cable), what injectors you have/will run (early and late injector connectors are different), and......what CBM said, whether you are running an E auto or not.

Simply:

GM LS1A PCM > 24 X, cable throttle, integrated auto controller, stock type harnesses have LS1 injector connectors: EV1.

GM LS1B PCM > 24 X, ETC (with seperate TAC module), integrated auto controller, stock type harnesses have LS1 injector connectors: EV1.

GM E40 ECM > 24 X, ETC, seperate auto controller, stock type harnesses have LS2 style injector connectors: EV6. (E40 is not as widely used as LS1, E38 or E67 controllers.)

GM E38 ECM > 58 X, ETC, seperate auto controller (A4's), stock type harnesses have LS2 style injector connectors: EV6. Also supports GM A6 with trans integrated controller.

GM E67 ECM > 58 X, ETC, seperate auto controller (A4's), stock type harnesses have LS2 style injector connectors: EV6. Also supports GM A6 with trans integrated controller.

GM Standalone: see E67. Does not support auto in native GM form.

MAST: Does both 24X and 58X, A4 and A6, see MAST product info for deeper dive. Their M90 is a well thought out controller.

FAST: see FAST product info.

Other aftermarket: See their product info.

I'd stick to the 24x and run a PCM from a junkyard (there's SO many 01/02 cars and trucks with the 0411 PCM) and a "standalone harness" for the PCM. Then you can use HPTuners or EFILive and have tremendous control of the engine. Going with a 58x wheel isn't a bad thing, but the newer stuff costs more, and you'd have to add the seperate trans controller if you need to control an A4. If you want to run a really new auto trans, then it's probably worth going to the 58x.
