Cam for LS7, what you running?
Fixing to do cam only on a buddies c6z, he cant find much on what cam to go with. He will have all supporting mods and will be running a small n2o shot(150), so we need to pick a pretty good grind for nitrous use.
First off, is .650 still the max lift on the ls7s w/o flycutting? I noticed TSP ls7s is .650 lift while ls7r is over .650.
Any input is appreciated.

Two cams I like for off-the-shelf is the Ragin Racing LethalZ... it's based on XFI lobes and is a 230/248 .648"/.651" 113+3 LSA. The other is the QM600. I believe it's around a 238/256 ~.660" 113+3. The QM600 needs some additional tuning, but it makes awesome power as does the LethalZ. Both can do about 530-550rwhp with a ported manifold, headers, intake, and tune. The QM600, I've seen has also done 560.
Both QM and RR have milder cams... the Street Bully QM550 and Stalker from RR. RR also has the Striker, a 243/257 .660" 110+4 cam, but it needs gears to be streetable, but has made about 570.
Lingenfelter also uses LSK lobes in their GT21 cam which is like a 243/259 and has .700" lift.
Most of the really fast Z06s are running something in the 230 duration range from RR, QM, Vette Drs... etc. I would stick with that.
Also, lift has nothing to do with flycutting. It's duration and ICL for determing where the piston is in relation to the valve at TDC. Plus the LS7 has reliefs already. I suggest milling the heads down .040" and running a Cometic .040". You'll gain at least 30rwhp and that works with the QM600 and LethalZ (though the Lethal ends up with a pretty high DCR with that - stick with milling .020 or so with it).

Thanks Jake.Thats why I haven't bought the package yet.I've bought more than a few cam and head packages from them with good results for ls1/2's but was not sure about the two cams they offer for ls7.I'm still looking for input on other cams aswell before I decide.

Yeah, I'm not saying they aren't good. Their LS7 heads are great. Their cams are aggressive but they perform as well. I talked to Carlos at QM, and QM600 is actually bigger than anything TSP sells. So maybe that's why you see 610+rwhp cars from him. But, I still prefer something in the 230 duration range as 570-580 can be had with great manners. If you plan on doing 3.90s, something huge would work well too.

Maybe you haven't seen some of the results out of TSP on the LS7 cars. We own 2 C6 Z06 LS7 cars (Sunset Orange and Atomic Orange for those curious) that we use strictly for testing, R&D, and track testing. Both have hit 600rwhp with cams smaller than the QM600 (if I recall the specs of the QM600 correctly from the time we engine dyno tested it side by side with our specs).

I'm running the QM600, making 566 rwhp (with a conservative tune) using TSP heads and all bolt-ons. It's a great midrange/high rpm cam, and sounds awesome at idle! It has a fair amount of overlap and will give up a little low rpm/light throttle driveability.

We have several LS7 Cams available that all make excellent power. JUst need to know exactly what you are looking for. Stock drivability, big power, a little of both.
STALKER, LETHAL, PUNISHER, STRIKER. Take your pick. I don't think you will find a company that is as devoted to LS7 camshaft testing as we are. Our LETHAL Cam is our most popular camshaft. It is a 232/250 .650+ 113 camshaft. It usually dynoes 540-555. Our Striker cam 243/257 110 is very violent and powerful camshaft. Give me a call and I can help find which is right for you.

Defiantely checkout our LS7R & LS7S camshafts, we have both in stock & have had great results from them. My personal car made over 550rwhp with the LS7R on stock heads & 610rwhp with the PRC LS7 heads!! I'm betting there's over 10 cam only LS7 cars running the LS7R camshaft making 550rwhp!!!

all the cam only LS7 stuff I have seen has made over 550 as long as you have headers as well. I think we average 565 at the wheels with Kooks headers and a cam and springs.

As I said, this cam, a 120 shot, and the right clutch.....about 2,000 mi on it back then, and I had C5 headers on it (no C6Z headers out yet). My cam grind but Ragin' tweaked a couple things as we were learning on the dyno. I have run 4 cams in my Z and would use my orig. grind (striker) if I were not going solid roller. Not the best idle, but mean as **** and talk about get the job done. It will take some time for the drivability tune, but I got a file that lets it cruise @ 1400 rpm in 6th w/ no bucking. When the LSXR manifold is released and used w/ this cam and "cleaned up" heads, I will put that combo up against ANY tuners combo. Not just peak #s, but power under the curve is there for sure.

I am going with Comp Cams new LS7R, it seems like a thumper. I had to mill my PRC heads for some serious squeeze, but there is so much hangtime on the valves on the upstroke my DCR is still around 8.25:1. It should be running finally in the next 2 weeks. I'll post some results since I have never seen any from this cam series yet.

The 239/255 looks interesting.
