Default Replacing VVT cam with gen 3 cam?

Can a regular LS1 cam be used in a VVT (LY6) engine? I know the cam gear and cover etc need replaced. The VVT cam has a groove in the second from the front journal and the cam I have doesn't. Will this cam work or do I need to order a different style LS3 cam?

When I did mine (L92 to LS3), I just had an LS3 style cam ground and used the LS3 cam timing gear and cover so I didn't have to worry about this headache.

My assumption would be that you can do what you have suggested based on the fact that GM sells versions of the LS3 with the ASA and LS1 hotcam - but I can't say from personal experience.

I've just done it to my denali.... it can be done, no problems... but if im not mistaken the l92s have a high flow oil pump and ur oil pressure might be a little higher then usual...

miss the VVT kick down low though, but it makes up for it in the top end..

well first of im limited to what 7cams?? with not much research or trial and error behind them, i wouldn't want to be a guinea pig...I've already tried the mast motorsports, and the install with the VVT wasn't as what I expected.. my mechanics screwed the install up.. so now i have the same cam with the ls2 cover and no vvt.. haven't felt tooooo much of a difference although there is some

My experience is the VVT screws up shifting with the A6's and a blower anyway. If all the my tables aren't set to 0 the shifting is FooBar. Neither HPT or EFI live have any MAP referenced tuning parameters either.

Wouldn't you also need to change out the lifters and lifter trays to go from VVT to non-VVT????.....

You are thinking Displacement On Demand. Only the front cover needs to be changed with VVT.

I think Mast had them out first. I talked with them and they spoke as if Comps specs turned out very similar to theirs...
