Default Advise on Ls3 427 CAM

I have an Ls3 427 short block with the following internals...

CALLIES CRANK
CALLIES RODS
MANLEY PISTONS (Custom for N/A 11:0 CR)
CLEVITE BEARINGS
AKERLY RINGS

I'm adding AFR 225's, an Ls2 TB and ported FAST90.

I bought this particular engine because I want to keep it NA and I don't plan on spraying it.

I'm looking for educated advise on a CAM for this engine. It's going into an '04 Z06 and I want to make as much power as possible yet keep it streetable. The car will see the track only occasionally and most of the driving will be hwy cruising on 91 octane pump gas.

Anyone have advise?

I'd try something like a Comp Cams LSL 247/251 .624"/.624" 113+3 LSA.

Look at my cam. There ain't no way anyone can tell I have a built 427ci engine in my car from just sitting in it. Idles close to stock. Zero lope, zero shakes, zero lumps. Smooth. Its just as streetable as a factory stock car in my opinion.

Thanks.

I guess I should have also asked how much RWHP you think it should make with said CAM.

Thanks for the info.

Your T/A looks like a fun car. Have you tracked it? Just curious what your ¼ mile times are.

Are your heads stock Ls6 heads?

Actually I kinda want a lumpy CAM. I'm replacing an Ls6 that had .234/.236 .614/.614 112 lsa. It made 444 rwhp and it was fairly easy to drive. Not quite like stock, mostly because of the Ozzy clutch, but easy enough. I'm an old phart and I like that old school big CAM sound.

Give Mikey at Rapid Motorsports a call. He will get you a cam for your 427 build that makes power.

Never had it a track. One of those G-Tech things on the street showed 11.2 with my Goodyear GS-D3 street radials. But how accurate are those G-Techs????

I only have ported LS1 heads (guess I didn;t say that in my sig., I'll change that) Not even LS6 heads and a stock TB. They only flowed 304cfm @ .650 if I remember right. I have 100+ hp hiding in better heads, intake and TB.

I didn;'t want any lope in mine, but this cam is so smooth, even I would have gone bigger if I knew if was going to be so tame.

Steve,
You need a cam like mine! Ping me and I'll call you with the specs or give you Pete's phone number and he can order it for you......you will be cutting yourself short with anything smaller,,,,and don't forget,,,,I'm running AFR 225's on
mine,,,Pete flow tested them and matched the cam perfectly with the heads.
You need alot of exhaust bias with that motor and those heads, at least as far as lift goes, and at least 6 positive degrees exhaust duration and maybe a bit more with the 427. Get the SCR up to at least 11.5 and you'll be good to go. Good luck Bro!

With the 225s? 535-550 depending on compression, bolt-ons, and tune.
