Default 404 ls2 first start, everything great, no tach

I just fired up my 404 ls2 for the first time and everything seemed to be perfect.

I noticed my tach did not work. Hptuners picks up rpms and so does my nitrous gauge. So I am wondering what is up. All my other gauges and sensors seem to work perfect.

Do i need to do a case learn to fix it?
I know the cam position sensor is mounted in the front and i wired for it, (i switched the outter two wires as instructed by my engine builder.)

Most likely you have a problem with the cam position sensor wiring. That is what drives the tach in the f-body.

Did the engine builder use a cam gear with a 1 x "timing lump" on it ?
Gen 4 with LS1 computer.

4x cam timing (not for LS1 computer)

0 cam timing (no cam timing for Gen 4)

I will call tomorrow to figure this out, if i have the wrong gear, is it just a matter of changing it? also if it is the wrong one, is there anything i can do to convert the signal or something?

Yes.
The stock 2005 spec LS2 1x cam gear is less than $40

Not without opening a can of worms.
Just get the 1x cam gear if thats what the issue is.
It may even be an LS1 style cam gear with no "timing lump" that was used.
No amount of $$$$ genius boxes will fix that.

Thanks, talked to engine builder and he confirmed it has a 1x gear. I guess i gotta play with wiring a bit more then or possibly the sensor.

Any good way to test which lead is which because i am having a hard time accessing the harness behind the engine, its possible i switched another one of the leads on accident.

Thanks for the help guys, i appreciate it, i double checked my splicing and noticed that we had a mix up and switched the middle with something in addition to switching the sides. Works great now!

Check the grounds on the back of the head. If there not all attached or not good enough you will loose tach signal also.
