Main Cap Bolts!

Main Cap Bolts!
I am rebuilding my '98 LS1. I need to know if I can reuse the Main Cap bolt, or should I get new ones. I know that Head bolts stretch, but I can't find anything letting me know if Main bolts stretch also. I thought about ARP studs, but They are like 4 times as much as replacement GM's. I heards a CRAZY CRACK, when I unbolted them, but I don't think it was the bolts cracking. Any input is appreciated!!!

You can reuse the GM main bolts. The main bolts that go thru the side of the block (lil guys) need to be replaced. They have a sealant on them and will leak if reused. ARP are not a good idea unless you plan on line honing the block. They all make a racket when cracking loose. Pay attention the the way the caps are installed they must go back in the same way! They are numbered 1-4 on one side and for some reason number 5 in the back is stamped on the opposite side.

You can re-use the side bolts. Just be sure to clean them very well to remove any oil and use some silicone or sealer on the threads to prevent any oil leakage.
