Default Low oil pressure? First time starting engine...

So i got my engine fired up for the first time today...It's an '05 LS2 from a vette. Engine oil is 0-30w amsoil.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVm0JODIpHg

Issue is, oil pressure reads low...25 psi at idle (1300 rpm, cold), and only gets up to about 50 when i take the engine to 4 grand. I didnt run it for longer than the video. Is this acceptable oil pressure or should i be looking for problems somewhere? Autometer phantom gauges if that makes any difference.

general rule of thumb 10-12psi to every 1000rpms.

Id try a heavier oil, I had Castrol Magnatec drop me to under 20psi about 1000klms after oil change. When I dropped it the stuff came out with a consistency like water. Have used edge sport 10-60 and have never had issue since.

Other thing to look at maybe the gauge is off.

It is lower than typical but still above GM spec.

GM spec 6psi @ 1000, 18psi @ 2000, 24psi @ 4000.

Many miles on the motor? Let it warm up and see what the pressure is and if it is down in the GM spec area then it may need some 40 to 60 weight to get you some safety margin.

You gotta run a heavier oil. With that 0-30, the pressures you're seeing is expected. Run a 10-w30 and I'd bet you'll be much more happy with the pressures you see

THANKS everybody. I need to figure out some cooling system bugs before i can run it for longer than a few seconds. I'll do that and get back with the updates. :-)

If the oil pressure is taken above the oil filter it would read almost 10psi lower than getting it directly from the oil port behind the intake.

I dont know how much this wil help but i have heard that some ppl when they put in the pick up tube the o ring gets pinched and causes it to loose some oil psi.

Good point to bring up. I dont think he had the motor apart tho and those figures are not really that low for that weight oil.

that's typical oil pressure using 0-30 wt synthetic oil for the LS family.

If you're gonna beat on it.... switch to 10-30.
