Default LS2 clatters at 2500-3000 rpm. Any Ideas?

Hi guys,
My Corvette has had a noise since I bought it 6 months ago. It has a distinct clatter in the engine compartment from 2500ish rpm up through 3100 or so during light throttle acceleration. I've had little luck trying to isolate it. Its low pitched, not valvetrain sounding. It seems more like piston slap or god forbid rod knock, although the oil pressure is good. It may well be in the clutch can or the exhaust (magnaflow cat back) hitting something. Its definately in the front of the car, but I can't isolate which end of the motor its on. It also does it at any temperature, and does it only on acceleration as best I can tell.

Are Corvettes or LS2s in general prone to known problems that can produce this noise?

Default Noise

I know the LS1's initially had Piston Slap problems and some truck 6.0's. My 4.8 in my Silverado has piston slap, but the ls2 don't think so. A leaky exhaust gasket? That will produce a noise that sounds like piston slap or knock on accel....

Do you know if it's a stock tune? Maybe someone stuck too much advance in the timing table?

Could you post a sound clip of the noise?

Its completely stock except for the exhaust and cold air. I don't have a video cam so I really can't post a clip, but I'll see if I can borrow one.

Lifter noise is common on Ls based engines at that rpm.
It can sound like rod knock.

Might be a push rod going bad especially if the car has seen high rpms. Easy to fix with the motor in the car.

Good luck.

I have the exact same problem on my Denali under load. Looked in to a lot of things, haven't figured it out yet. Thought heavier valve springs would fix it but no dice.
