Default Valve Spring Removal Tool?

Can someone tell me what is the best valve spring removal tool with the heads on for LS3 heads. I saw that Lingenfelter and Crane have one but I don't now which one would work the best. My engine is in an old GTO so I don't have to worry about the cowl getting in the way. Thanks for your help!

I would go with the crane. I have a crane that does 2 springs at once and I feel it paid itself off the first time I used it.

We use all of their stuff: Buxton Engineering that is. Great quality stuff that will last for years.

Here is the link:

I just finished swapping springs and I used Thunder Racing's tool for all except the back passenger side springs. My opinion? It needs to be made out of steel. It's made of aluminum so when I used an extension for the back springs, like the website recommends, the torsional load caused square hole for the ratchet drive to deform and wouldn't hold the ratchet drive. It would probably be fine for an LSx engine that doesn't sit behind the windshield like an F-body does.

I ended up making my own "Tim's Tool" and finished it in about 20 minutes. The "Tim's Tool" design is the best bang for your buck, but the Crane/Speed Inc. one looks like it would be the best period.

**disclaimer** Not bashing Thunder Racing, just trying to give feedback on one of their products.

Guys, on L92 heads the Crane tool used for LS1/LS6 stuff will not work, and neither will "Tims" tool. The intake valves are off-set.

From what I understand there is a dual spring removal tool now made for the L92's, but I haven't gotten a hold of one yet.

Are you sure "Tim's Tool" won't work? It seems that the plate portion could rotate on the stud to meet the offset valve location.

Guys,

My tool does work on L92 as well as LS7 style heads with the offset. As stated above the tool can be rotated to compress the spring and have had plenty of feedback on the offset heads that it works GREAT.

Thanks,
Tim

To each their own. I didn't like the looks of the tool position when I "rotated" one on an L92 head, so I used my old school compressor on the intake side.
