Default buy an LS7 long block from GM or build a 427 with the ls7 block

hey guys this is all talk for the future considering i dont have the money to do it right now but i was wondering what you think.

the LS7 long block from gm is 9500 bucks. its 505 hp plus is owuld probably change the cam out before the motor even went into the car so were looking at closer to 550. plus it comes with all those titanium goodies for a really light rotating assy and titanium valves in the heads.

Or i could build a motor for about the same money that would have ported ls7 heads and probably the same cam.

IDK

I went with building one. All things being equal money wise, why not build the motor around your goals, instead of limiting your goals to the motor. Say, you wanna spray the car with a 300 shot one day, you are not doing that with a stock shortblock. Thats the thought that came into my head anyway.

the way i look at it...the stock gm ls7 with a cam i can get 500 to the wheels NA...thats good enought for some high 10s on my car. its safe to through a 150 shot on that motor so your looking at say 625 to the wheels. thats good for 9s...thats about as fast as i see my car going...its going to stay stock weight street strip car.

if i was building an all out drag car then i would build a 454 iron lsx block with some big etp heads and a 300 shot....some 1000 hp action lol

625 rwhp w the bottle will work. question is....for how long. i'm not a fan of cast pistons and big power. i'd vote for a good ol fashioned fully forged 440 using the ls7 block. very strong. i did just that, put the TFS 235's on (they do make more avg power than an ls7 head) and have had great success with it.
