Default Which of these 2 springs are better for 228R?

Hey, I have a texas speed 228R cam (228/228 duration .588/.588 lift 114 lope).
I need springs. Which set is better for it?

OD: 1.290
ID: .885
Max coil bind: 1.140
Installed Height: 1.800
Max Lift .600

Load @ 1.800 130lbs
Load @ 1.200 318lbs
Spring rate: 313.3 lb/in
Weight: 62 grams
Frequency: 29277 CPM

OR

# 1.260" OD
# .880" ID
# 130 Lbs @ 1.795" -Valve Closed, Spring Installed Height
# 345 Lbs @ .600" lift (1.195")
# 355 Lbs @ .620" Lift (1.175")
# Max lift- .620"
# Rate# 356
# Average Coil Bind @ 1.100"
and with- (Use whichever shims necessary to obtain the desired spring installed height of 1.795" (commonly only a .015" shim))

The specs you have in red, thats a PAC 1218, i'd go with that.

Whats the 2nd springs? sounds like a PSI beehive?

IMO both PAC and PSI make great springs but I would run a PAC 1521 it has a higher seat pressure and the nitrided heat treatment helps the spring to live longer.

Yeah the first is a pac1218 which ive read is great on previous threads. Im not sure the blue one is a sponsor, so im hesitant about it.

I guess my question is, would a larger lift spring (blue one or PAC 1521) always be better for my cam for longevity?

I am also unclear on coil bind and am looking for the right measurement for the 228r..

Not so much a larger lift spring as a spring with a higher seat pressure to help keep the lifter on the cam at higher rpm. You want to run the spring close to its coil bind this takes the harmonics out of the valve train, extending it's life. With your cam i would install the 1521 springs @ 1.750 to get you closer to it's coil bind.

1521, pure overkill for this. At 1.750" it would be 160+lbs on the seat

If you wanted an upgrade i'd go with 1518 springs, same as 1218, nitrided for long life.

Better a little over than under. @ 1.750 they would be 170lbs on the seat and in about 1000 miles they will fall of to 155 on the seat and remain there. Witch imo is were they should be. Don't forget your spring is the life of your valve train.

Patriot golds or 1518s would **** it in no probs. A lot of the shops in Aus have changed to patriot for there value and longetivity.

FWIW: My PAC 1521's were just measured after 6-7k miles with a .660 lift cam and had lost less than 5lbs pressure. Pretty amazing and I'm sold on the nitrited series from PAC. I'm putting them right back in the heads.

That being said...get the PAC 1518's for your cam and let it live a very long time before you need springs again.

Yeah the 1521s are very good. And I thought about Kevin's thread when this was posted lol. I am surprised most guys skimp on not using them, but 1518s are very good aswell Id imagine follow the same process as there premium duals although I pulled some springs (1518s) from a 230-236 xfi lobe LS1 the other day it lost only 5 pound pressure in this time, We haven't been able to get them to fade either
