We've done about 5 and none of them have needed to be line bored.

OK here's the deal. Someone had this block before me and we don't know if someone changed the main caps or what, but they are way off spec. So it must be done to salvage the block. Thanks Lee

Yeah if the caps were changed or even if there's a chance, then it needs to be line bored. That Sucks!!!!

Do you guys run like a .010 under timing chain? What do you guys do for the side ,cross bolts? Do you cut the caps down? Thanks Lee

its align honed not bored. it has to be seriously fucked to negate a bore.

just align hone it like you would any other engine. just be sure to grind the side surface flat to the mating surface.

when i did mine, i noticed that the side bolt holes are considerably larger than the bolt itself, leaving you room to align hone the block. i took about .002 off my caps and honed it, and still had plenty of room to put the side bolts in.

I just got my block in January which was the new part number 19213964 LSX block. It was about .002 undersize on the main housing bore so it absolutely needed to be done. From what I understand all the newer part number blocks need to have the align bore completed to finish size. They also come with a cylinder bore of like 3.880 and decks at 4.260 so it appears everything needs some attention to get to standard LS dimensions.

Just as mentioned before, you will need to sort out the main cap issue and whether or not they need to be re-arranged. An align hone will never hurt any motor in terms of making sure the housing bores are straight. Best of luck to you.

Just watch yourself on the timing chain, get a good tensioner. I never liked moving the crank up in the block, ever if it's minimally. A good tensioner should take up the slack.

your only taking at most .002 or .003 off. that wont hurt the timing chain.

I've had my block for about a year, the main housings were dead nuts on.

My engine builder discovered it today. He is World distributor. He called his guy at world and explained the problem with the block with them. There is no way that World would let this block out this way. Some one either bought this block without main caps or some on changed them. But these are not the caps that were on this block from world. They are the right style but not the caps the were machined on the block. They need to be line bored, a hone won't do it. Thanks Lee

it is align bore-we bore the block so that we only remove a minimal about from the block itself so we don't have timing chain issues. When you align hone, you remove equal amount from both the cap and block. On the align bore i can take .004 from the cap and only .0004 from the block.

Thanks, Align bore. As long as we can fix this block I'll be happy. It sucks when you buy something sight unseen. I'm just worried about this being a cross bolt block compared to a typical small or big block chevy. Thanks Lee
