Default Which CamShaft Is Best For A 408?

So i've been doing alot of reading on different L92/LS3 Headed 408 set-up's an it's starting to make me scratch my head as to what everbody else is running inside of there 408's as far as camshaft selection goes? I've been reading alot of threads on these heads an i'm starting to see a patern here, but it's taking me a little longer to completely understand it fully. My current camshaft is 251/259 660/663 111LSA. I would greatly appreciate any comments & suggestions to further finish my goal to make as close as i can to 600 on the street to the wheels before the nitrous kit goes on the vic jr. I absolutelt want to be able to make the most power that i can yet still in a decent streetable powerband.

My l92 408 has a 255/265 on a 110 lsa. Victor jr with elbow. Good luck hitting 600. I know I spent ALOT of money trying to do the same.

With a carb on top it made 750 on the engine dyno. I dont see it losing a whole lot with the Aarons elbow I have. Its not as it comes out of the box. I can tell you it will surpass a plastic intake by quite a bit

Ill correct myself and say its a GMPP intake not a victor. The top of the GMPP intake already has a radius on the carb flange and saved me a little time on the porting.

I dunno if anyone really has yet, but i seen a car that made 598 to the wheels with a GMPP intake an a 4150 barrel TB about 6 months ago revving to 7800. So i'm curious to whose done what for the street to make brute power like this?

With 6 speed cars been done several times. You jusy need some rpm and you should make more than that. We are about to finish an LS3 that should make 600 at teh wheels in an outo even.

What would you suggest for me in order to make this car run above 6 like that? I'm going to run a victor jr. intake ported very well with a 4150 carb style TB with a better camahft with a wider LSA.

Probably the Vjr. and you don't need to go wider but rather narrower with that manifold on motor at least. Don't know anything about the valvetrain or whether it will pull over 7K or not though. That is seperate from teh specs you have. It's about the lobes and springs and weight of valves etc.

Mine turned 8500 with no problem. Valvetrain gets EXPENSIVE with high rpm. Dont forget, RPM=MPH!!

Its not just valvetrain at that blazing RPM that needs addressing... What did you run for an oil system? Thats buzzing and waaaaaaaaay higher than any street/strip V8 I've ever been in.

Was this a drag only car?

It's 11.2:1 compression. Street car. I wanted something that would have a strong powerband. I'll have some wheel numbers shortly.

I am building a LQ4/415 stroker, but might step up the pistons to make a 425, not sure yet. I am still working on the intake side of things, but I was looking at the Cary's 2 piece intake with a 4150 Accufab on top and will have Pat G spec out cam.

I really like the power curve in the link below! Nie and clean and still over 500 to the wheel when it falls on its face, lol. This is where I was introduced to Cary's intake, but from what I was told by the shop who built it, there is $1500 in port
work done to that intake

Can you guys (Pwebbz28, racer7088) post your mods for your 600+, I would love to see it!

Here is what I am building:

Callies Crank - Magnum XL 4.125
Callies rods - 6.125
Custom Wisco 4.005 pistons (for now, but might bump to a 4.05)
WCCH L92 Stage 2 heads
Morel Lifters
LsXtreme Performance ORY/LT with 2" primaries

Just good heads and intake with valvetrain that can exploit the heads and intake basically. I am making my own springs for the xtra high lift hydraulic rollers right now and have my own lobes but it is a system and the valves and rockers and pushrods all need to be right and the geometry as well.
