Default Question on installing yellow ls2 springs on L92 heads

I have a LY6 engine with L92 heads and am installing the yellow beehive springs that came with the Ls6's and Ls2's. Can I use my stock retainers and locks? Cam is low lift (under .570)

Sounds like a bad idea to me. Weight the L92 intakes vs. the LS6 and you might agree. I have yet to see a stock or stock replacement L92 intake anywhere near the mass of an LS6 intake, and the yellow springs are marginal with anything larger than the 2nd Z06 cam.

Spring (pun intended) for a good PAC beehive. A good cam guy can advise which springs based on the cam you are using. Shoot, buy the springs from the cam guy along with the cam. Some of them even know what springs to use with the cams they spec.

2009 GMPP Catalog says LS2/LS3/LS6 springs are the same. I realize the LS3 has lighter valves. Can the retainers & locks from my LY6 with L92 heads be used with these springs? Its a low lift cam so valve train stress should be low as well.

You can but the 92 valves are too heavy for the yellow spring. If you were running the LS3 valves you would be ok. A PAC 1518 would be a better spring in all cases.

Ok - I guess I will buy better springs. I keep seeing Jeff Smith from Car Craft magazine use these for his econo build ups. Are these PAC springs better than the comp beehives or patriot golds?

i run a stock ls2 cam on my twin turbo gto with L92 heads and yellow springs with no problems what so ever. its been spun up to 7000 grand also. if you are keeping the lift low (im .525) there should be no problem.

My understanding is that the .570 lift specification is only for the hollow valves. I've seen .525 used in other GM descriptions of these springs, and my guess is that's a more conservative number based on the use of heavier style valves like the L92s.
