Default cam and valve spring swap

so im doin my first lsx internal mods on an lq9, putting in a larger cam and some upgraded springs, rented the oem valve spring tool from autozone and compression tester, now just to do it, any tips or advice, ive read other posts and they just say get a better tool, someone was talking about the installed height needing to be right, but the set i bought said they are a drop in kit so the height should already be right, right? or should i go ahead and measure the installed height just to be safe? any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
