Question Time to rebuild ...

I knew this day would finally come where it just died .... But I'm looking at it from a positive view. It's time to rebuild it - stronger and faster! But I would love some advice on where to go ...

Here's what I've got (forgive me if I leave something important out - still learning)

LS1 Block - so long as it's salvageable (waiting to take it apart)
LS6 Manifold
TSP 233/239 .595"/.603" (and all the necessary upgrades that come with it - springs, timing chain, oil pump, LS7 lifters etc.)
Pacesetter Headers
Motive 3.73
4L60e w/ RevMax 3600 Stall
SLP LM II

Here's what I'd like to add:

TSP 383 rotating assembly w/ ARP 2000 bolts (not sure of the ACTUAL #s with regards to the crank / pistons - that's where the advice comes in handy)
PRC Stage 1 LS6 Heads
12 Bolt Moser
4L80E w/ 3600
If the block isn't salvageable, I'll probably upgrade to an LQ9 402 but that's a whole 'nother post ....

So a few questions regarding those additions:

What HP and torque increases will I see changing to a 383?
Can I keep most of prior upgrades?
What other additions / upgrades are needed with this change?

Any advice is helpful ... thanks in advance!

I would wait on the heads until you can afford better. You might be disappointed with "Stage 1" heads on a 383.

The 383 will basically bump up torque all across the RPM range, and with the same heads/cam as the smaller engine, you should make around the same horsepower at a lower RPM.

Well I could get the 2.5 heads but when I looked at the difference in HP vs $$$ ... it was like 10hp gain at best for an extra $500

What else would you recommend? Is the 383 a good option with that block?

Not sure if that 4L80E is such a good idea at that power level. It will certainly take more abuse than a 60, but you're going to gain weight, add driveline loss, and most importantly you're going to have a much more shallow 1st gear. At that power level, you might be better served plowing that money into a built 4L60E.

Actually, with 3.73 gears that shallow 1st gear might not hurt you too much, but you'll feel the deeper .75 OD gear.

It's not exactly that cut and dry with engines to say stage 1 vs stage 2 is 10hp. It doesn't exactly work that way, there are too many variables, especially with an extra 40ci.

The 383 is a good choice, I think, but I would prefer to go to a 408 if the weight isn't a concern. You can make enough power with a 408 to offset the extra weight, and you can open up more choices for cylinder heads, such as L92 and LS7 style heads.

ahh ok ... thank you ... So maybe going the LQ9 would be the better route? And with it being iron could handle a boost app down the road ....

Here's a question regarding the LQ9 block - can I move all my stuff from my LS1 to it? ... like the LS2 timing chain, headers and cam? (I don't think the LS6 manifold would fit, right? - I'd prob have to go LS3 ...)

Everything will swap over. If you keep the cathedral port heads then the ls6 manifold will work. If you go to rectangle port heads, like the LS3 or LS7, then you will need to switch the manifold.
