Default Decisions.. Decisions.. Rotating Assembly vs. Block Assmbly Purchase

Hey guys,
I'm trying to decide if its cheaper to pick up a 6.0 Iron block from Texas Speed for $749.99 and get a TSP Rotating Assy. I was thinking 418. Or go with a built 415 motor from Schwanke Engines about $3000.00

The obvious way out seems to be Texas Speed, but I'm not sure. I'm wanting to make about 450+hp out of the build. Or, those with the 6.0 iron blocks and stroker kits feel free to chime in with your thoughts/experiences.

$3,000 for a short block 415ci...thats a good deal from a very good builder.

What parts are in that 415ci?

And jeez, 450 RWHP will be a serious cake walk with a 415ci. L92 heads and L76 intake and you should make 500 RWHP or more. Medium cam, nice idle.

www.schwankeshortblocks.com
I spoke to the owner over the phone for nearly an hour a few days ago. He's very thorough and told me I'd make easy 500-550hp with the motor, and LS3 intake F.A.S.T. fuel rails included. Aftermarket oil pump (Melling/SLP) LS2 conversion kit.

Feel free to glance over the builder's site. He's got a 415 shortblock assembled, and u can customize it as u like. Just play around with the options. For very cheap you could have a serious mill

The car is not my daily driver, so that's why I'm sorta hoping for serious power, but still easy enough to cruise the streets on occasion

It is difficult to make an apples to apples comparison because his website doesn't give any specifics on which brand components are used, if the crate/cradle and/or shipping are includes, etc. But, I can tell you that we can build a Callies crank and rod, Wiseco pistons (steel top and napier 2nd ring set comes standard) iron short-block for $3675 before the crate/cradle/shipping. A comparable combo(again with unknown components) on their site is $3669.99 (you have to have the conversion package for their because they are using a Gen4 block and to get apples/apples you upgrade to a steel top ring set).

Being from the DFW area, you could make the drive out here and pick it up and save all that $$ on the crate/cradle/shipping with us and get a free shop tour

The total shipping cost with crate and cradle will be $200.
Compnents are Eagle crank, Eagle Rods Mahle Pistons. We have had many of these in street and race cars, circle track mind you, with nigh a problem on the rotating assembly.

We don't use Callies Compstar rods due to the fact that the 2 circle track engines we put them in, they failed!!!!

Our 415 is one of the most reliable packages we have. And, if you want to go to the 2618 Wiseco piston, it is just $300 extra.
If we can find a Gen 3 iron block, we will gladly use it. The Gen 4 blocks we are using are brand new.

How much power did u put down? I'm seriously considering the 415 Schwanke combo.

Thank you very much Matt. I look forward to doing business with you sometime in the near future. I can smell the tires burning already. People will be rolling up their windows now when I roll to the lights. LSX excitement!
