Default LS2 Block w/ LS1 Heads

Hey all,

Due to a small misfortune involving a stock starter breaking and punching a hole in my stock LS1 block, I need a new bottom end. I'm comparing prices on Texas-Speed and I find out that there isn't much difference price between a 346 LS1, a 383 LS1, and a 402 LS2 short block. I'm limited by about $6k, so a short block is all I can buy.

I have Ported/Milled 5.3L heads, a Torquer v.2 cam, a FAST 90, blah blah blah. PTV clearance was VERY close when I did the H/C/I swap, but I've never had piston slap. As long as I get flat top pistons, I should be able to swap everything over to the new short block, correct? In other words, can I use my 5.3L heads on a LS2 block?

PS: I know I need the "conversion kit" for the Gen III to Gen IV motor

6K is allot of money for just a short block. Get a 427ci-441ci. resleeved LS2 and a set of ported L92 heads. Then when you have extra money for better intake/TB/cam/tune....you're all set to make ~600+ RWHP N/A.

Maybe get it all now for 6K.

.

I'm not spending all of the $6k on a shortblock. I'm also buying an EWP and new valve springs, and even then, I doubt i'll top the $6k mark.

If you are gonna use those heads with a LS2 402ci motor you better check what pistons you are gonna need so the DCR isn't to high. I don't think those heads would do any good on a motor that size anyway.. also be sure to get a custom cam. Sell those heads and cam to someone else and get something thaty will work better. Now they would work o.k. with the LS1 383ci
