LME has nice balancing equipment. They're in Houston right near Beltway 8 and Tanner.

Matt: I'm in the Fort Hood area which is about an hour North of Austin. But, please, no job work to Sunset Racecraft.

I've talked with LME and they are not interested.

Greg,

Just got your email around 11:50am and replied to it just now. We can balance your assembly no problems. We charge $150.00 to balance a crank.

Sir, I sent you a PM with details as I never received your reply to the e-mail. Maybe the PM is the safest method.
Thanks!

Would you believe me if I said a 3.5 HP Briggs & Stratton out of a Sears riding mower? Nah, I wouldn't either.

I do not want to turn this into a big negative, murky area thread, but I am going to reuse my Eagle crank and Scat rods after having them magnafluxed, knife edged, micro-polished, re-bushed and coated. Not all vendors are comfortable with second hand parts. My parts are about seven thousand miles old and not really abused, so I'm comfortable. The Eagle crank is rated at 1500 HP, so it never came halfway close to it's limit.

I've spoken to reps. at Eagle and Scat to find good vendors who will guarantee the condition of what I want reworked.

I asked for what it would cost to build what I want, but it is beyond my means without financing.

I was a toolmaker for many years and for part-time fun I worked in a race shop doing their machine work, so I'm comfortable assembling everything. But, purchasing all the proper measuring equipment is beyond the cost of paying someone good to assemble the short block.

In short, I'm cutting corners where I can to do 90% of what I want. It involves more legwork and research like this, but my time is mine.

I've found that alot of the shops people like to name drop don't want to do piece work. In other words they want to do a turn key job. If you are a do it your selfer they don't want your money. If times are tough they may do you a favor. Just talking from experience.

I'm not sure who you talked to? LME does many balance only jobs. If you have not had the crank balance we would be happy to help you out.

Thanks,
Bryan
