gm break in procedure for new crate engine...confusion
hello
I am confused about gm recommendation for break in new engine. here is example:
6. The engine should be driven at varying loads and conditions for the first 30 miles or one hour without wide open throttle (WOT) or sustained high RPM accelerations.
7. Run five or six medium throttle (50%) accelerations to about 4000 RPM and back to idle (0% throttle) in gear.
8. Run two or three hard throttle (WOT 100%) accelerations to about 4000 RPM and back to idle (0% throttle) in gear.
GM first tell that dont use any WOT and after that recommend WOT
Anyone can explain throttle and gear(s) from steps 7 and 8? Which gear, from to rpm, downshift, no downshift?
thanks

Go in order. Do 6 without WOT like it says. Do 7 without WOT. When you get to 8, go WOT. You are working up to it in numerical order.
#7 specifically says Idle and 4000 RPM. That would mean you have to start in 1st gear. I'd start from a stop in first and go thorugh 4000 like it says, then shift and take it up there again for the higer load in a higher gear, then stop. Do it a few times per the instruction
#8 specifically says idle and 4000 again. Do it from a stop to 4000.
